Thomas W. Kinnaman, of Evendale (formerly of West Chester), passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 15, 2019. He was born Monday, June 5, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio to Farrell B. and Louise C. (nee Sipple) Kinnaman.
Tom served three years in the United States Navy on the USS Sampson DDG-10 as a Missile Technician. He was honorably discharged as an FTM2. During these years, he received the training he would need for his 37-year long career in Computer Engineering with IBM and StorageTek. In the early days of his retirement, he enjoyed driving a school bus and serving as a bus aide for the Lakota School District.
On March 22, 1968, Tom would marry the love of his life, Christine Woidtke (nee Southall) after knowing her for only 6 weeks. He adopted her 2 children, and they welcomed a third child 3 years later. Together they would share a life filled with love, humor, and family.
A handy-man by nature, Tom was able to fix just about anything, from cars to general house maintenance; even building his dream home “South Hill” – a passive-solar Deck House on a hillside on Tylersville Road. Tom also had an artistic touch. Every year, he would design and make hundreds of angel ornaments to be given away at Christ the King Lutheran Church’s Advent Brunch and to all their friends and family. He was also talented with stained glass, presenting guests at his daughter's wedding with a stained glass white rose bud.
Perhaps one of his best traits was his sense of humor. Tom always had a riddle or a joke ready for the next person he would talk to. The family is convinced the angels are now getting to experience his comedic humor.
Tom was preceded in death by: his parents, Farrell and Louise Kinnaman; sister, Nina Ramsey; and brother, Carl Kinnaman.
Tom is survived by his wife of 50.8 years, Christine Kinnaman; children, Diana (Michael) Mullenix, John Kinnaman and Jeanne (Michael) Bauer; daughter-in-law, Jessie Kinnaman; grandchildren, Justin (Jennifer) Walsh, Ryan (Cas) Mullenix, Lucy Mullenix, Ashley Kuemmerling, Tyler Kinnaman, Jesse Kinnaman, Kylie Kinnaman, Emily Kinnaman, Marcus Bauer and Raegan Bauer; great-grandchildren, Lilly Walsh, Katie Weiner-Kinnaman and Byron Weiner-Kinnaman; nephew, Carl Robert Kinnaman; great-niece, Caroline Kinnaman; his 99 year-old mother-in-law Jeanne Brodie; and his favorite sister-in-law Pamela Brodie and her husband Ben Price.
Tom’s family would like to thank Hospice of Cincinnati for their help and care over the past few months. Special thanks to Karen Kirby and Chassity Goble, who became part of our family.
