Dorothea L. Blackburn

Dorothea L. Blackburn (nee Newberry), a young and vibrant 95 years old, passed away peacefully Friday, September 21, 2018 at Bethesda North Hospital.  She was born Thursday, July 12, 1923 in Louisville, Kentucky to Leslie and Virginia (nee McCann) Newberry.

Over the years, Dorothea worked in several different professions.  During World War II, she was a Teletype Operator.  For many years, she was a bookkeeper and also worked in several retail settings.  Her favorite job was working in an Art Gallery where she was responsible for framing pictures.  Both Dorothea and her husband were active in Christ Church Cathedral and St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Louisville.

Although her husband had two left feet, Dorothea loved to dance, winning multiple Jitterbug contests.  She loved talking with her friends often discussing the latest fashions.  Dorothea loved to shop adding to her large selection of clothing.  Sharing a love of fictions, mysteries and spies, she traded books with her daughter keeping a revolving library of must reads.

Dorothea was preceded in death by: her father, Leslie Newberry; mother and step-father, Virginia  & William  Torstadt; husband, Warren Blackburn; and sister, Geraldine Hudson.

Dorothea is survived by: her daughter, Lesa (Geoff) Frazier; grandson, Matthew Frazier; granddaughter, Sarah Frazier; and other loving family members and friends.

Gathering of Family and Friends will be Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 11:00 AM until time of Memorial Service at 11:30 AM at Christ's Church, 5165 Western Row Rd, Mason, OH 45040, with Rev. Tom Moll officiating.
