Irwin James Rysdam

Dr. Irwin J. Rysdam , age 87, passed away peacefully Friday, September 14, 2018 at Thrive at West Chester.  He was born Monday, November 24, 1930 in Roseland, Illinois to Ira and Grace (nee Bos) Rysdam.

After graduating High School, Irwin worked for a short time before joining the United States Navy.  Irwin used the GI Bill offered veterans at the time to further his education and received his DDS from Loyola University.  A career in Dentistry provided an opportunity to help others locally and through mission trips.  When he was not busy being a dentist, Irwin enjoyed sailing.  The combination of air, water and sun always brought a smile to his face.  Irwin was also very talented with woodworking and stained glass.

Irwin was preceded in death by: parents, Ira and Grace Rysdam; and sister, Marie (Peter) Doot.

Irwin is survived by: daughters, Joy (John) Eklund and Karen (Keith) Ruter; grandchildren, Karl (Anais) Eklund & Benjamin Eklund and Aaron (Brittany) Ruter & Margo (Jason) Hawk; great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Wyatt Ruter; close nephew, David (Jan) Slagter; close friend, Marlene McElroy; and other family members and friends.

A Graveside Service will be Friday, October 5, 2018, 11:30 AM at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
