Sachiko Okamoto

April 6, 1923 — August 13, 2018

Sachiko Kohara Okamoto, M.D.,  Age 95, was called away to the Lord on Monday, August 13, 2018.  Beloved wife of the Reverend Toshio Okamoto; loving mother of Joel (Ruth) Okamoto, Martha (the late Todd Peck) Okamoto, and Rebecca Okamoto; dear sister-in-law of Setsuko Kohara and devoted grandmother of Jacob, Peter, and Thomas Okamoto and Andrew and Benjamin Peck.  Beloved daughter of the late Junsuke and Kisa Kohara, and dear sister to the late Ayako, Sumiko, Tadachi, and George Kohara. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Dr. Okamoto leaves a remarkable legacy as a pioneering woman surgeon in Japan, a Hiroshima atomic bomb survivor, and later, as a role model, when after a 25 year gap, she restarted her medical career and opened a general practice.  She practiced medicine in Michigan for over 20 years. While Dr. Okamoto will be remembered for her resilience, insight and compassion, her joy was as a wife, mother, grandmother, mentor, friend and neighbor.  She loved to cook, sew, host, and help those in need.  Memorial visitation will be at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040 on Friday, August 17 from 6-8 PM.  A memorial service will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1285 Main Street, Hamilton, OH 45013 on Saturday, August 18 at 10:30 AM.  Private Inurnment will be held at Irving Park Cemetery, Chicago, IL.
