Nancy Guckert

Nancy (nee Hirschy) Guckert , age 85, of Loveland, Ohio passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the Lodge Nursing & Rehab Center.  The youngest of three girls, she was born Saturday, December 10, 1932 in Toledo, Ohio to Emile and Helen (nee Faulkner) Hirschy.

Growing up in Toledo, Nancy graduated from Libbey High School as co-valedictorian of her class.  She would follow in her sisters' footsteps and attend Bowling Green State University where she majored in Biology and English.  Nancy graduated cum laude in 1954 earning a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education.

From Northwest Ohio, Nancy moved to Northeast Ohio where she began her teaching career in South Euclid-Lyndhurst.  While in the Cleveland area, Nancy was reunited with fellow Bowling Green alum, William E. Guckert.  They were married in June of 1956.  Nancy put her teacher career on hold with the arrival of their son and daughter.  She returned to teaching in 1970, later retiring in 1991.  Nancy had the unique opportunity to teach sons and daughters of her original class.  Both Nancy and Bill were active in Euclid Avenue Christian Church in Cleveland Heights.  Nancy served as a deacon, elder and chairperson of several committees as well a teaching Sunday school.

In 1995, Nancy and Bill moved to Sunrise Landing in Maineville, Ohio to be closer to family.  Nancy was active in the Garden Club at Sunrise Landing and at Tylersville Road Christian Church in Mason, Ohio, now known as Compass Christian Church.

Twenty-five years ago, Nancy and Bill began a tradition that would become a favorite for everyone.  Visiting the Outer Banks of North Carolina would allow the family to join together in one spot and create memories to last a lifetime.  Bill and Nancy had the opportunity to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Outer Banks in June of 2006.

Nancy was preceded in death by: parents, Emile and Helen Hirschy; husband of almost 62 years, William E. "Bill" Guckert; daughter, Diane Connolly; and sister, Elaine Shawaker.

Nancy is survived by: son, Jim (Susan) Guckert; son-in-law, Tim Connolly; grandchildren, Alex Guckert, Sarah Guckert, Erin Connolly and Catherine Connolly; sister, Mary Kuhlman; and many other loving family members and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
