William E. "Bill" Guckert, age 89, of Loveland, Ohio passed away peacefully Friday, April 6, 2018 at his residence. He was born Friday, September 7, 1928 in Sandusky, Ohio to Norman and Irma (nee Bremer) Guckert.
Growing up in Sandusky, Bill graduated from Sandusky High School in 1946. While in school, he played trumpet in the school's orchestra, concert and marching bands. Bill also played in many local dance bands in and around the Lake Erie resort area during high school and college.
Bill was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He received a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration with a major in Advertising. After graduation, he entered the United States Army during the Korean Conflict with the 92nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion. After serving for twenty-one months, he earned the rank of Sergeant First-Class.
After the Army, Bill worked for The Chilcote Company (Taprell Loomis Division) in Cleveland, Ohio for over 37 years and retired as the Assistant Vice President, Sales Promotion Manager in 1993. While living in Lyndhurst, Bill was a member of the Euclid Avenue Christian Church in Cleveland Heights, serving as a deacon, elder and many other capacities at the church.
In 1995, Bill and his wife Nancy moved to Sunrise Landing in Maineville, Ohio to be closer to family. His service continued at an active member of the Tylersville Road Christian Church in Mason, Ohio, now known as Compass Christian Church. Here, he served on many committees involved in raising money to help build the new church. Bill was also very active with the Sandharbor Homeowners Association in Sunrise Landing as he served on the Board of Trustees for six years and was the president for two years.
Twenty-five years ago, Bill and Nancy began a tradition that would become a favorite for everyone. Visiting the Outer Banks of North Carolina would allow the family to join together in one spot and create memories to last a lifetime. Bill and Nancy had the opportunity to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Outer Banks in June of 2006.
Bill left his mark on his family in many ways. His love of playing the trumpet carries across three generations to his son and grandson. Traveling is a hobby that all family members appreciate with the Outer Banks being a favorite. Bill's grandson will celebrate with family and friends this summer as he marries his sweetheart in the Outer Banks. Bill will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bill was preceded in death by: his parents, Norman and Irma Bremer; and daughter, Diane Connolly.
Bill is survived by: his loving wife of almost 62 years, Nancy (nee Hirschy) Guckert; son, Jim (Susan) Guckert; son-in-law, Tim Connolly; grandchildren, Alex Guckert, Sarah Guckert, Erin Connolly and Catherine Connolly; sister, Norma Jean Andres; and many other loving family members and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Compass Christian Church, 6771 Tylersville Road, Mason, Ohio 45040.
