Emily Marie Casey , "Em", age 18 from Mason, Ohio was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 29th, 1999. She passed away peacefully Saturday, March 31st, 2018.
Emily had battled many life threatening medical issues associated with CDGS (Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation Syndrome) throughout her entire life. Separate from her disorder, she struggled with bone marrow failure and had received hundreds of blood and platelet transfusions throughout the years. Her bone marrow failure recently turned to Aplastic Anemia and eventually LGL Leukemia. She ultimately passed away from complications from leukemia.
Despite her suffering and challenges, Emily was always happy, loving, joyful and funny. Her smile made you smile, and her hugs stayed with you. Her belly jiggled when she laughed, and she often laughed until she cried. She loved her family, friends, teachers, caregivers, coaches and all who entered her path with great passion. She did not know a stranger, and it was difficult to go anywhere with her in a hurry because she would always run into a friendly face.
Emily is the beloved daughter of Jennifer and TJ Casey; loving sister of Amanda Casey; granddaughter of Richard and Joan Gaspar of Centerville, OH, Susan and the late Ronald Casey of Alpharetta, GA; niece of Mike and Kim Casey of Alpharetta, Ga, Kevin Casey of Shelby Township, MI, Brian Casey of Atlanta, GA, Dave and Stephanie Woeste of Cincinnati, OH, Geoff and Christina Gaspar of Kettering, OH; cousin of Kathryn, Allison, Shannon, Adam, Lizzy, Lauren, Chad, Ori, Nova and Quinn.
In lieu of flowers, the family has a Memorial Fund titled "Amazing Emily Casey" set up at 5/3 Bank in her honor to support the organizations that most supported her and gave her the most joy throughout her life - Hoxworth Blood Center, the Aaron W. Perlman Center (where she attended preschool) and, of course, her favorite, Cincinnati TOPSoccer. To donate, please call Steve Stemick at 513-398-1075 ext 3 or visit any 5/3 Bank Branch.
A special thank you to Dr. Kasiana Myers, the Starshine Hospice Services and the caring staff of Cincinnati Children's Hospital for the loving care they provided.
As many of you know,
YELLOW
was a favorite color of Emily's. The family will be wearing her color this weekend and invite you to do the same if you would like.
