George E. Gallaway
, age 78, of Loveland, Ohio passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 22, 2018 at his residence. He was born Friday, August 18, 1939 in Cincinnati, Ohio to George E. and Agnes (nee Helmer) Gallaway.
George received his BS in Engineering from Michigan College of Mining and Engineering, now known as Michigan Technical College. After college, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. It was during this time he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 3 battle stars, Bronze Star medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and Meritorious Unit Citation. George returned to school after his military service and earned his MS in Business Administration from College of William and Mary.
George loved traveling in his RV with his wife, Kathleen, and was a member of the River City Winnies. Together, they also cruised the Mississippi River creating lasting memories. At home, George enjoyed taking on various DIY projects, both in the house and the yard. But his favorite pet project was literally taking good care of his pets...his dogs. George also looked forward to socializing and exercising with his "Silver Sneakers" group at the Blue Ash YMCA.
George was very active with church. As a founding member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, he served as Liturgical Minister and Usher. He was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Max and the 55+ Ministry at Good Shepherd Church.
George was preceded in death by: his parents, George and Agnes Gallaway.
George is survived by: his wife of 40 years, Kathleen A. (nee Myers) Gallaway; step-children, Eric (Laura) Kunkel and Gretchen Kunkel; grandchildren, Julia, Jack and Mary Clare Kunkel; sister, Margaret R. Hopkinson; nephew, Mark Hopkinson; and many other loving family members including, Elaine Basinger, George Helmer and Rita Hudson.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8815 E. Kemper Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45249. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 Noon at the Church. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
