US ARMY VETERAN
VIETNAM WAR
Joseph Dwight Harbison, age 71,
passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. He was born on September 26, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph David Harbison and Ruby Christine Bell Harbison. Dwight graduated from Michigan State University in 1968. Dwight was also a Vietnam veteran where he served his country from 1968 to 1970. Although he would rarely comment about what went on during his time in the service, Dwight was proud to serve and protect his country.
On June 23, 1978, Dwight married the love of his life Deborah Ann Thomas. They had two children, Kimberly, born June 19, 1980 and Joseph, born September 11, 1982. Dwight was very proud of his children's accomplishments in life. He frequently told the story of how his father loved education and photography and that he would be so proud to know that Kim is a teacher and Joseph is a photographer.
Dwight was known for his people skills. He loved to laugh and tell stories. He was always well dressed, polished from head to toe which served him well at his Ad Agency position. Dwight's passions were his faith and sports. He was a member of Tri-County Baptist Church in West Chester, Ohio for 29 years.
On March 8, 2001, Dwight was officially diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Dwight's active life style soon started to slow down as he lost the ability to keep his balance. Over the years the disease took its toll on his body, as he started to use a walker. Then in 2013, after a fall broke his shoulder, he was confined to a wheelchair. In September, 2017 Dwight was admitted to the Ohio Veterans home in Georgetown, OH.
Dwight is survived by Deborah, his wife of almost 40 years. They have 2 children; Kim (Christopher) Ryan and Joseph (Robin) Harbison, 5 grandchildren; Seth Ryan, Henry Ryan, David Ryan, Beckham Harbison, Zoe Harbison, his brother Gary and nieces and nephews.
Visitation is at Tri-County Baptist Church, 8195 Beckett Road, West Chester, OH 45069 on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 10 AM until time of Service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Dayton National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the National MS Society in Dwight's name, Ohio Valley Chapter, 4440 Lake Forest Drive, Suite 120, Cincinnati, OH 45242.
