Erik R. Delp
, age 36, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, March 29, 2017. He was born Friday, December 19, 1980 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Ted and Deborah (Larson) Delp.
While Erik started kindergarten in Aurora, Ohio and attended first and second grade in Lake Villa Illinois. The family returned to Ohio and settled in Mason. Erik graduated with honors from Mason High School in 1999.
In his youth, Erik studied Shorin-Ryu, a form of Okinawan karate and obtained the level of brown belt before entering college; played the guitar; and got hooked on video games, especially role-playing games. As an adult, he connected regularly with his brothers in Ohio and Florida through game play.
Erik earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in December of 2004. During his college program he did co-op work for two firms: Rhodia, Inc. in St Louis and Copeland Corporation in Sidney, Ohio.
After graduation he worked for Hexion, a specialty chemicals company in Cincinnati as a lab technician. He was particularly proud of a UV curable ink research project he worked on with a team of specialists and researchers while there. Results were published in Ink World.
His position there introduced him to Teckwin, a manufacturer of large graphic printers headquartered in China. They hired him as a Field Services Engineer. While with Techwin he moved to Las Vegas Nevada, their North American headquarters and supported customers worldwide. This involved trips throughout the United States as well as to Peru, Brazil, China and Tahiti.
He had his motorcycle transported to Nevada. Riding in the mountains and deserts of surrounding Las Vegas brought him a new appreciation of the outdoors and the inspiration it offered.
In 2013, Erik joined Pictographics, which provides graphic imaging on virtually everything and had been maintaining their large graphics printers and supporting their Las Vegas shows until his death. Erik was blessed with a mechanical understanding that allowed him to fix anything. In fact, he often wore a t-shirt that said, "I'm here because you broke something". He found a home there. He was committed to make a difference and was developing strong personal connections with those who worked with him.
Erik embraced the minimalist lifestyle -- focused more on people and experiences than on things and ‘to-do’ lists. He was focused on healthy eating. Cooking had become one of his most recent interests. He raved about the sous vide method of cooking meats, found some tasty ways to enjoy kale, and was including cookware, knives and cookbooks among the items on his birthday and holiday gift lists.
Erik was preceded in death by: paternal grandparents, Richard and Rosalind (nee Ellis) Delp; maternal grandparents, Allen and Margot (nee Helm) Larson; and an uncle, Michael Larson.
Erik is survived by: his parents, Ted and Deborah Delp; brothers, Shaun (Katie) Delp and Ryan (Megan Weaver) Delp; sister, Kerstin Delp; aunts and uncles, Emily (Richard) Smucker, Philip Delp, David Delp, Alanna (Art) Poirier, and Douglas (Nancy) Larson; and many other loving family members and friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road in Mason.
