US ARMY VETERAN
KOREAN CONFLICT
Deeno Perry Gounaris, born June 18, 1928 and passed away peacefully on May 24, 2017, age 88. Deeno was preceded in death by Tula, his beloved wife of 55 years. He is survived by his three children: son Perry Gounaris (Linda), and daughters Stacy Gounaris, and Leah Suer (Jim); four grandchildren: Ayla and Enya Overholser and Romie and Carson Suer; niece Debbie Withers (Tom Guerra) and nephews Lee (Patty) and Brett Withers; and many loving members of the Georgas, Withers, and Bliss families. The family would also like to thank the staff of Chesterwood Village for loving and caring for our beloved Deeno for the last 3 ½ years.
Deeno was many things to many people; jazz lover, billiard champion, snazzy dresser, wristwatch and pinkie ring collector, "the maestro" and all around cool cat. He was a guiding force for so many-a kind and gentle soul who set a great example of what it was and is to be a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Deeno loved to dance--- and nothing was better than watching he and Tula cut a rug. He was awarded Best Dancer of his graduating class of Kaiser High School in 1945. (He remained a little bitter about not winning Best Dressed as well!) Deeno was the Ohio State 9 Ball Champion in 1970 and went on to beat the famous Minnesota Fats in an exhibition game that same year, with his trusty Balabushka always at the ready. Deeno loved to share his passion for jewelry, billiards and especially music with all. He loved to attend concerts and regularly exposed his family to whatever music was new, exciting, and interesting.
We know that Deeno and Tula are together once again, dancing to some great jazz music. We will think of our Dad every time we hear his favorite musician, Stan Kenton, and imagine that he greeted Deeno with his familiar greeting, "Hey Dayton, how ya doing?"
Thanks for everything-thank you for being an incredible father and grandfather and thank you for filling our lives and hearts with music. We will miss you and Mom each and every day, until we meet again.
