Everett Kenworthy, age 91, of West Chester, Ohio passed away peacefully Monday, April 24, 2017 at Cedar Village Care and Community. He was born Sunday, January 24, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri to Frank and Lillian (nee Duncan) Kenworthy.
Everett served in the United States Army Air Corp. He was a proud graduate of The Colorado School for Mines, a top college nationally for engineering. He received a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering. After more than 40 years of service, Everett retired from General Electric having been an Engineer in their Aviation Division.
Everett enjoyed traveling the world and was able to work in France for 3 1/2 years. He was known for his ability to navigate a new city. Once he arrived, he would study the map and the following day take his family to the local attractions often using short cuts from memory to get there. Everett enjoyed the arts and often attended plays and concerts. He stayed very active by golfing, playing tennis, fishing and indulging his passion for skiing, even snow skiing on his 80th birthday. As an extension of his engineering skills, he could fix almost anything. If something didn't work right, you could depend on Everett to fix it. He had many anecdotes to relate about his adventures, especially his many fond memories of his college days in Colorado. A few of his favorites included flying a small plane with a friend from Golden, Colorado to Laramie, WY for a football game and having to land in a dark field when the kerosene lanterns that were the light sources had the wicks trimmed improperly. Then there was the story when his Model A broke down climbing the mountainous road into Silverton, Colorado and he fixed it using his belt. He had many other stories (incomplete I think for his children's sakes) about all the kegs of beer that Coors so generously supplied to his fraternity. While working for GE, he was instrumental in the sale of jet engines for the C5A cargo plane to the military and was able to go on the maiden flight that circumnavigated the globe. I think there could have been a book of all of his experiences if only we had noted them down!
Everett was preceded in death by: his parents, Frank and Lillian Kenworthy. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marceline (nee Waldron) Kenworthy; daughter and her husband, Dr. Amy Kenworthy and Dr. Frank Wheeler; son and his wife, Mark Kenworthy and Linda Kenworthy; grandchildren, Kurt (wife, Laurie) Freyer, Hayley Wheeler, Holt Wheeler and Sean Kenworthy; niece, Nancy Blum; nephews, Michael (wife, Angie) Ingram and Mark Ingram; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 28, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, Ohio 45040. A Memorial Service will follow at 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Time for fellowship will follow the service.
