Andrew R. Katona, Sr., age 82, of West Chester, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at West Chester Hospital. He was born Saturday, February 9, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to Thomas and Helen (nee Sramate) Katona.
Andrew was a proud veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was proud of his family and worked hard as a truck driver hauling cars from state to state. Andrew never wanted to see anyone go without, especially children. It was not uncommon for him to cook large meals during the holidays so others could eat. Many kids also benefited from his generous gifts, making sure they didn't get just one figurine but the whole set.
Andrew found immense satisfaction in grooming his yard. Pounds of fertilizer every month required cutting the grass every other day (and don't forget to cut it a different direction each time). But his yard was immaculate looking as though it had been groomed with scissors.
Ever heard of Chicken Paprikash? Chicken paprikash is a popular dish of Hungarian origin, it is the Hungarian national dish and Andrew could make it better than anybody. He was also known for his stuffed cabbage and breaded pork chops. Along with his son and grandchildren, pounds of hungarian sausage was made from scratch.
Andrew was preceded in death by: his parents, Thomas and Helen Katona; and brothers, Thomas Katona and Leon Katona.
Andrew is survived by: is son, Andy (wife Kristina) Katona, Jr.; daughter, Lori Katona; grandchildren, Drew Katona, Justin Katona, Jackson Katona and Samantha Katona; sister, Jean (Ron) Delong; many other loving family members; and numerous friends that he loved as his family.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, Ohio 45040. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 9080 Cincinnati Dayton Road, West Chester, Ohio 45069.
