Randall Smith

May 17, 1926 — March 22, 2017

Randall "Smitty" Smith, age 90, of West Chester, Ohio passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso, Indiana.  He was born Monday, May 17, 1926 in Jack Horn, Kentucky to Harold and Jessie (nee Parker) Smith, Sr.

Randall served in the US Army during World War II.  Growing up in Eastern Kentucky, Randall was a CoalMiner for many years.  He later moved to Cincinnati in 1958 to begin a career in Maintenance at Union Camp.  Randall had the ability to fix anything but what was most amazing was his ability to design and create the tools to fix the problems.  His talent and wisdom was invaluable to the company who later encouraged him to "name his price" to keep from retiring as they recognized his value.  Randall declined citing he was truly ready for retirement.

Being with family was the most important part of Randall's life.  He never met a child he didn't like and that didn't take an immediate liking to him.  A "Jack of All Trades", his family could depend on him for anything.  Randall stayed busy from sun-up to sun-down, enjoyed walking, antique cars and whittling cedar.  His family and friends will fondly remember him as "Papaw".

Randall was preceded in death by: his parents, Harold and Jessie Smith; wife, Hazel Smith; daughter, Pat Copley; and a brother, Roland Smith.

Randall is survived by: daughters, Glenna Callaway, Judi (Wayne) Martin and Beverly (Gary) Roy; sister-in-law, Reba Smith; grandchildren, Chris (Mandy) Frank, J.R. (Kari) Frank, Josh (Kayla) Miniard, Christy (Dan) Curry and Brian (Chelsea) Roy; great-grandchildren, Ella & Macy Frank, Carter & Jackson Frank, and Duncun & Benjamin Curry; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, neighbors and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, Ohio 45040.  Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM also at the Funeral Home.  Interment will immediately follow at West Chester Cemetery.
