Liz "Betsy" Townsend

Liz "Betsy" Townsend (nee Gabbard), age 70, passed away peacefully Monday, January 9, 2017 in West Chester, Ohio.  She was born Saturday, March 2, 1946 in San Diego, California to Alan Lanier and Eleanor Mae (nee Smith) Gabbard. Liz married her sweetheart, John, on May 7, 1966.  She was honorably discharged as a Major with the US Army where she served as a Registered Nurse.  Following her military career, she continued practicing her nursing skills at Mercy Fairfield and then worked with home health care before her health kept her from providing care for others.  Liz enjoyed being active outdoors such as hiking and camping.  She loved to decorate for the holidays. Liz was preceded in death by: her parents, Alan and Eleanor Gabbard. Liz is survived by: her loving husband of 50 years, John R. Townsend; daughter, Lisa (Dennis) Daniels; son, Eric (Sharee) Townsend; brother, Dr. Alan Lanier (Bonnie) Gabbard, Jr.; grandchildren, Jordan Daniels, Jessica (Javin) Thomas, Tyler (Cassie) Daniels, Josh Townsend and Ethan Townsend; great-grandchildren, Gracelyn Thomas, Treycin Daniels and another one on the way; nephew, Dr. Scott (Cynthia) Gabbard; niece, Stacey (Kevin) Riley; and many other loving family members and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM at St. Anne Episcopal Church, 6461 Tylersville Road, West Chester, Ohio 45069.  Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM with The Rev. Phyllis A. Spiegel officiating.  Entombment will be at Miami Valley Memory Gardens in Centerville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to John R.
