Carole A. Kubrin

Carole Ann Kubrin passed away peacefully in her home in West Chester on Saturday, December 17, 2016. She was born July 25, 1956 in Girard, Ohio to Cecil and Ruth (Haines) Hovis. She married Edward J. Kubrin of Youngstown, Ohio on June 23, 1979, and together they had two wonderful daughters. She graduated from Youngstown State University in 1977 with a degree in Special Education, and earned her Master's Degree in Special Education from Xavier University in 2003 while working and caring for her daughters at the same time. She was a teacher for 23 years, eventually retiring from St. Susanna School in Mason in 2008.

Carole was a 21 year breast cancer survivor, and lived remarkably with metastatic cancer for over 17 years. She was proud to be included in the book Miracle Survivors by Tami Boehner, and didn't let cancer stop her from living life to the fullest. She is remembered as compassionate, loving, and always willing to give. She volunteered at Compass Christian Church as a former Elder and organized trips to local soup kitchens once a month, along with helping maintain a community garden and food bank to feed any who were hungry. She loved being with friends and family, reading, and she learned to play the piano in her 50s.

She is survived by her husband, Ed; daughters Lauren (Brad) Sheets of Liberty Township and Tricia of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren Kate and Nick Sheets; and sister Nancy (Tony) Markota of Struthers.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Compass Christian Church, 6771 Tylersville Road, Mason. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, December 26 at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040 and again at church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Carole's name to the Compass Christian Church, Soup Kitchen Fund.
