Donald G. Moore

March 19, 1940 — November 14, 2016

Donald G. Moore, age 76, of Maineville, Ohio, passed away peacefully Monday, November 14, 2016 at the Alois Alzheimer Center.  He was born March 19, 1940, in Akron, Ohio, to Donald T. and Josephine (nee Benak) Moore.

A graduate of Norton High School, Don earned a B.S. degree from Kent State University.  While at Kent he served as president of his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon. After college he achieved his dream of becoming an aviator in the US Navy.  He  completed over 600 carrier landings and was awarded several commendation medals. He retired in 1986 as a commander. Following retirement, he continued to fly as a corporate pilot.

He enjoyed jogging, collecting model trains, preparing taxes, and working in his yard where he had planted a "secret garden" for his grandchildren.  He loved big band music, reading mystery novels, and watching old movies.  Don was a Rotarian and a member of the Quiet Birdmen (QB's).

Donald is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth (nee Pollard); his daughter, Christine Balogh (Bob); his grandchildren, Justin and Emily Balogh; his sister, Sharon Papp (Don); and many nieces and nephews.  His parents and a sister, Susan McClelland, preceded him in death.

Don enjoyed any reason for a party.  To continue this tradition, the family will host a Remembrance Gathering on Sunday, November 27,2016, 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Clubhouse in Heritage at Miami Bluffs.

Inurnrment will be in the Dayton National Cemetery.  The family is especially grateful for the compassionate caregivers at the Alois Alzheimer's Center and the Hospice of Southwest Ohio.  They are also appreciative of the thoughts and prayers of friends and relatives.
