Passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 13, 2016 with her family at her side.
Laura's passion and competitive nature for sports were second to none, including coaching and playing softball, volleyball, and senior olympics. She took her teams to national and world tournaments, which she won! She was a highly respected coach that knew the rule book inside and out and won many games with that knowledge and tactical approach. She was the first female umpire for men's major league ASA softball. She fought to have access to practice and playing fields equal for women players. She helped form the first women's 30 and over softball league. She also helped form the first union for Northwest School District bus drivers.
Her hobbies included fishing (for which she won an angler award for a large mouth bass), gardening, shopping, dancing, local theater, and was a seamstress.
She was the backbone for the Channel 12 "Who Do's" charity basketball team which successfully raised over half a million dollars.
She loved her Delta Queen river cruises, camping trips to Bonesteel, South Dakota, and family swim nights at the Central Parkway YMCA followed by White Castles.
The family home had an open door to all, including animals.
Her love of her children and grand-children included supporting them in their sports and other interests. She was loved and known for her fudge, fudgsicles, and chocolate malts earning her the name "Grandma Fudgie."
She also volunteered her time tutoring children in the "Whiz Kids" program.
