Gertrude Vanderwerp

Gertrude Vanderwerp (nee Geusebroek), age 99, recently of Fairfield, Ohio, longtime resident of Platte, South Dakota, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Hospice of Cincinnati, Blue Ash, Ohio.  She was born Thursday, March 15, 1917 in Geddes, South Dakota to Stephanus and Cora (nee DeVogel) Geusebroek.

Gertrude was a seamstress most of her life in addition to taking care of her family and home.  She enjoyed boating and fishing on the Missouri River in South Dakota as well as going on road trips with her beloved husband, Henry.  Gertrude loved staying active in her community and enjoyed playing bridge and other card games.  She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Gertrude was preceded in death by: her parents, Stephanus and Cora Geusebroek; husband, Henry Vanderwerp; and sisters, Lena Gardiner and Katherine Underwood-Miya.

Gertrude is survived by: her daughter, Jane (Dennis) Trchka; granddaughters, Amy (James) Drake and Molly (John) Sautman; great-grandchildren, Kaylyn Drake, James "Tre" Drake, Colton Drake, Elizabeth "Elie" Sautman, Olivia Sautman and Alexander Sautman; and many other loving family members and friends.

A Visitation will be held Monday, July 11, 2016, 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, Ohio 45040.  The Funeral Service will be held Monday at 5:00 PM at Mueller Funeral Home.

Additional services will be held in Platte, South Dakota with burial to follow at Platte City Cemetery.
