Martha Sue Macy

November 17, 1935 — April 23, 2016

Martha Sue Macy nee Parker, age 80 passed from this life peacefully into the arms of her Lord Saturday morning April 23, 2016. She was the beloved wife of 52 years to Ronald Macy, and daughter of the late Arnold Parker and Jane Fischer nee Gunnison. Martha was the devoted mother of Tim (Jennifer) Macy of Kings Mills, OH, Sarah (Mark) Bowser of West Chester, OH, Jim (Amy) Macy of Brecksville, OH, Julie (Curt) Walters of Fishers, IN and Terry Lewis of Cincinnati, OH. She was the grandmother of Mitchell, Morgan, Sydney, Megan, Corina and Nate Macy, Andrew, Hannah, Rebecca Bowser and Macy, Matt, Maggie and Meredith Walters.

Born in Anna, Illinois on November 17, 1935, she graduated from 1954 Henry Senachwine High School, in Henry, Illinois. After high school, she attended Illinois Masonic School of Nursing, where she received her RN in 1958. Martha then worked at Illinois Masonic Hospital, until she and Ron married in 1963.  They moved to Virginia Beach, VA. and resided there for a year, while Ron was in the Army. During that time, Martha served as a private duty nurse. Upon Ron's discharge, they returned to Chicago, where Martha resumed work at Illinois Research Hospital for 2 years.

Desiring children, Martha and Ron prayed to the Lord asking for Him for children of their own and the ability to provide a home to other children needing a family. They then relocated to a small farm near Winchester, Indiana with the hopes of starting a family. In 1968, they welcomed their first two children (Tim and Sarah). During that time, Martha continued to work part-time as a nurse. They also welcomed their son Jim in 1970. Later that year, Ron's work took them to Cincinnati, Ohio, where they bought a home in Mason. After making their new home they were blessed with an additional daughter (Julie) 1972.  When her children were in school, Martha also enjoyed providing childcare in her home.

Ron and Martha had not forgotten that promise they made to the Lord about the desire for a family acknowledging the Lord's faithfulness. In 1980 they started the process of becoming foster parents with the Hamilton County Family Services. Over the next 18 years they have taken in seven foster children of which Terry Lewis has become one of our family.

Once her children graduated from high school she served as a teacher's aid in the Mason school system for 18 years. While there, she enjoyed working with many teachers and students at the grade school level.

Shortly after retiring Martha's health began to deteriorate then after an unfortunate fall in 2013, it was discovered that she was suffering from Cortical Basal Ganglionic Degeneration (CBGD). As a result of this disease Martha required 24/7 care.  During that time, she was blessed to be cared for by her husband and several other gifted caregivers in Ron and Martha's home. Martha fought valiantly by trusting the Lord one day at a time.  Her husband and family feel grateful to have been able to share many great years and memories.
