Joanne Elaine (Lewis) Ferguson passed away peacefully at her Cincinnati home on Jan. 4, 2016, at age 84. She is survived by James R. (Jim), her husband of nearly 60 years; son David of St. Petersburg, FL., daughter and son-in-law Julie and John Horn of Cincinnati, grand-daughters Kristen and Lauren Horn, sister-in-law Gloria Lewis, niece Molly Malone and nephews Mike Malone and Mike Lewis. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ken Lewis, niece, Mickey Lewis and sister-in-law, Dottie Malone. Joanne was born on May 5, 1931 in Dayton, OH, and was raised there by her late parents, Pauline (Bowman) and Orson Lewis. After graduation from Wilbur Wright H.S. , she became a feature writer at the Dayton Daily News, where she met her husband, a sports writer there. She attended Miami University. After leaving the paper to raise their children, she co-founded and operated nursery schools and a day care center in Dayton and Cincinnati. With a love of travel, she and her husband visited more than 40 countries and islands around the world, and travelled extensively in the U.S. She loved to read, garden and, with her daughter, researched family genealogy. Visitation will be at Mueller Funeral Home, Mason, Ohio on Friday, January 8 from 10am-12n followed by the service. Private burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton, OH.
