David Owen Cox of West Chester, OH and Hayward, WI passed away October 20, 2015 in Cincinnati, OH. He was born in Elgin, IL, son of Frank and Eleanor Cox. He was raised in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida and graduated from Normandy High School in St. Louis in 1956. He attended Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, graduating in 1963 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. After graduation, he began work at Mobay Chemical Co. in New Martinsville, WV. Dave married the love of his life, Sonia Sandau, August 10, 1963 in Bethany Lutheran Church in St. Louis. They lived in West Virginia for six years during which their two daughters, Laura Lynn and Donna Marie were born. In 1969, the family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where Dave worked for W.R. Grace Chemicals. His entire career was spent in chemical production management, with 14 years as Plant Manager of W.R. Grace's Cincinnati facility. Outside the plant, Dave was active in church, community, and industry affairs, serving as President of the Ohio Chemical Industry Council which elected him Trustee Emeritus. Dave was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cincinnati and First Lutheran Church in Hayward. After retiring in 1996, Dave and Sonia built a home on Little Round Lake near Hayward. He was an avid fisherman and especially loved fishing with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed woodworking, golf, any game or puzzle, and just being in the North Woods. He is survived by his wife, Sonia, daughters Laura (Simon) Sharp and Donna (Brian) Bradley, grandchildren Elliot Bradley, Andrew Bradley, Emma Bradley, Richard (Samantha) Sharp, Christopher (Haley) Sharp, Jennifer (Will) Bench, four great-granddaughters, sister Mary Ann Rose, sister-in-laws Patricia Cox, Jayne Ewalt, Nancy Hawkins and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of Memorial Service at 11:30 AM.
