Alexander Vermejan, Jr., age 84, of Hammond, Indiana, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, March 3, 2015. Alex was born on Tuesday, March 3, 1931 in East Chicago, Indiana to Alexander and Anna Vermejan, Sr. After 44 years of service, he retired from Inland Steel as an Overhead Crane Operator. An avid outdoorsman, Alex enjoyed hunting, trap shooting and fishing. He also had fun playing cards with his friends. Alexander was preceded in death by: his parents, Alexander and Anna Vermejan, Sr.; brother, Steve Vermejan; sister, Margaret Sertic; sisters-in-law, Marie Vermejan and Marvela Vermejan; brother-in-law, Ken Sertic; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Fusner, Joan (and husband Joseph) Kartz, Leila (and husband George) Vrahoretis; and brother-in-law, Vernon Guzek. Alexander is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Betty M. (nee Mirzalli) Vermejan; children, Alexander E. (and wife, Ellen) Vermejan, Christopher (and wife, Kimberly) Vermejan and Kathryn (and husband, Paul) Stark; grandchildren, Alexander D. (and wife, Kerri) Vermejan, Adam M. Vermejan, Christopher Vermejan, Bradley A. Stark, Curtis A. Stark and Rachel L. Stark; brother, Charles Vermejan; sisters-in-law, Mary Lynn Guzek, Kathy (and husband Terry) Schwartz, and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and friends. A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 12:30 PM until the Memorial Mass at 1:00 PM with Father Mosley officiating at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7132 Arizona Avenue, Hammond, Indiana 46323. Inurnment will immediately follow at St. John-St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond, Indiana. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association in memory of Alexander.
