Jerry F. Krabill

April 8, 1939 — November 30, 2014

Jerry F. Krabill, 75, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014 in the presence of loved ones. He was born in 1939 in small town Piqua, Ohio to Ferman and Lydia (nee Yoder) Krabill. Belle was a teacher and his father a mortician, creating a unique environment in which and he and his sister Jane grew up with wholesome activities like making club houses out of coffin boxes. Jerry was proud to have served in the US Air Force, and, had many colorful stories about his time in Europe. He also had many colorful stories about his success as a ladies' man in his days before he met and married Marilynn. For more details on these adventures please see Trek. What do people say about Jerry? I will never forget your dad, his sense of humor, his intelligence, and his total, unabashed nerdiness that was way cool before it was cool! - RHP He was one of the first people I remember having the Internet at home. I always thought that he was ahead of the curve where technology was concerned. - DC He was an amazing Dad and he taught me not to take anything too seriously. There is no situation that can't suffer a good chuckle. - BKA What was up with his obsession with McDonalds? - anonymous "Mr. K patiently, and with the most up-to-date technology, recorded all of our choir and band concerts, half-time shows, plays, and musicals. Because of him I have a record of the best events from my junior high and high school life! And boy did that guy love Dominos pizza!" - KRP He was my adult hero for playing hooky from work to go catch the new Star Trek movie on the day it premiered. I couldn't believe an adult would ever do that! - KS "Jerry-rigging" Jerry was known as the "MacGyver" of his family. He never hired anyone to fix anything because he had the ability, and ALL the tools, to do it himself. He single-handedly kept all the family cars running, re-roofed the house, and managed any plumbing or electrical problems. He always figured it out. He and Trek built a clubhouse and later a half-pipe in the back yard for skateboarding (the neighbors loved that one!). Jerry was also into building personal computers from spare parts, before home computers were commonplace. His TRS-80 (or "trash-80) was well loved. His technical interest was most evident in the family room, specifically the TV area. The sheer number of VCRS (all fully programmed to capture a series of favorite shows) and the mysteriously "free" cable were all his handy work. I remember the first time I was ever at your house he had a stack of about 4 VCRs wired together (when VCRs were the latest thing) and it was like the deck of the Enterprise. Forever cool in my mind. -MS Jerry was also a natural salesman. He could truly sell ice to Eskimos. He was self-deprecating, charming and lightly funny, making him an unstoppable force with teachers, government workers and waitresses. Unabashed Definition: not ashamed, disconcerted, or apologetic; boldly certain of one's position His nephew Gregg sums it up, describing Jerry as a "hilarious rascal." Jerry had a unique, attention getting sense of humor. As a HAM radio operator, he was known around the Cincinnati area for his notable call sign, K8SEX. (Who knows how we talked the powers-that-be into that?). At Garden Manor where he spent his final days, he passed the time by creating colorful nick-names for the nurses that cared for him daily. The Hospice nurse he called "Digger" (get it?). His feisty and humorous personality quickly earned him the unanimous title of "ornery" that was always cooed at him in affection. Jerry's take on life was to make the best of what he was given. He always found ways to make those around him laugh, even making uncomfortable situations a little less frightening. He will be deeply missed. Jerry was the loved husband to Marilynn K. (nee Shelton) Krabill, devoted father of Brandee Krabill (William Matthew) Anderson and Trek Shelton (Sue) Krabill, loving grandfather of Annabel Justine Anderson and Maxwell Grey Krabill, dear brother of Jane (Larry) Wilson.
