Aiyu Zhang was born in Ning De, Fujian, China on April 29th, 1972, and she is the youngest child in her family with four more siblings. Aiyu was a great woman. Those of you who have met her through the years know that she was a beautiful person inside out, with an extremely thoughtful, generous, perfectionist and optimistic personality throughout her life. In 1990, Aiyu studied in the Department of Precision Machinery and Instrumentation at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). When she was at USTC, she met her future husband, Shanwu Wang, in the classroom, and they married in 1998. After graduating from USTC, Aiyu studied in SUNY at Stony Brook and PennState, where she obtained her second Master degree, Electrical Engineering. In her spare time, she liked to watch football game and became a big football fan. In 2001, Aiyu joined Corning Inc., and her talent and potential was discovered immediately. She had worked on several important projects, and authorized a few patents in five years. She received Woman of Color Technical All Star award in 2004 for her excellent performance. In 2006, Aiyu moved to Cincinnati to join her husband. Her son, Jason Wang, was born in the same year. Two years later, Aiyu joined GE Aviation as an engineer, and had worked on CF34 and LEAP 1C programs. Her cheerful and detail-oriented personality made her adapt to GE culture quickly. As the FADEC interface owner with COMAC in the LEAP 1C program, she was recognized by her colleagues for her due diligent and excellent coordination. Aiyu was not only a distinguished engineer; but also a great mom. During the very tough battle with cancer, she enjoyed her best time traveling with her son for national and local chess tournaments. After the five-year battle, Aiyu passed away peacefully, while surrounded by family and friends, at 4:15PM on Friday October 17, 2014 at the age of 42. Her smile will be remembered forever in many hearts.
