Nona F. Martens

June 3, 1930 — July 22, 2014

Nona F. Martens, 84, beloved wife of Glenn H. Martens, devoted mother of Darnell (Linda) Martens, loving grandmother of Keith (Grace) Singleton, dear sister of Merlin Stockfleth, daughter of the late Hilbert and Clara Stockfleth. Passed away peacefully July 22, 2014. In 1930, Nona Faye Stockfleth was born into an Iowa farming family. It was there that she grew up, attended school and nurtured a strong faith in God within the Lutheran church. It was also in Iowa that she eventually met Glenn Martens with whom she would begin a romance that would span more than 60 years. They married in 1952. Into that loving relationship, Nona and Glenn welcomed their son - Darnell. Darnell was a gift to Nona having been born on her birthday - June 3a birth date that they would share and celebrate for a lifetime. In 1956, the young family moved from Iowa to Florida in search prosperity and opportunity. Prosperity came in the form of Glenn starting a retail career at Sears and the family beginning a long and wonderful association with Concordia Lutheran Church in Sarasota, Florida. By 1975, Darnell had completed college and moved to Cincinnati. Meanwhile, family needs took Nona and Glenn back to Iowa. There they started and operated a retail business. The opportunity to sell their retail business enabled Nona and Glenn to relocate in 1989 to Cincinnati where Darnell resided with his family. This final move brought them into the fellowship of King of Kings Lutheran Church. Nona loved being involved with all facets of the church - celebrating her relationship with God and cherishing the friendships she forged. Nona's unwavering faith, loving marriage, personal strength and indomitable smile served as an example to all of a life well-lived. Two days after celebrating her 62nd wedding anniversary with Glenn, Nona was peacefully called home to God. A gathering of family and friends will take place Monday, July 28, from 10:30 AM until the memorial service at 11:30 AM at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 3621 Socialville-Foster Rd., Mason, OH 45040.
