UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVES VETERAN Peter Boriin, 76, of West Chester, Ohio passed away May 29, 2014 at West Chester Hospital. One of five children, he was born on September 13, 1937 in Hibbing, Minnesota to Oscar and Maude (nee Case) Boriin. Peter graduated from Chisholm High School, Chisholm, Minnesota in 1955. He earned his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in 1960 from the University of Minnesota. Proud to be an American, Peter served his country in the United States Army Reserves from 1954 to 1962. Peter started his career in 1960 with the Potlatch Corporation in Cloquet, Minnesota. He met Patti that same year at a Halloween party and they were married November 4, 1961. At Potlatch he started in the Process Engineering group in the Pulp Mill, Paper Manufacturing and managed installation of the first off-machine coater, he later became responsible for process engineering projects working as operations Shift Foreman and development and implementation of an Operations Training Program for the hourly employees. He and Patti raised a close family, Pete was born in 1965 and Patrice in 1970. Peter enjoyed watching both kids grow, graduate from college, get married, and begin their own beautiful families. In 1974, Peter went to work for Kimberly Clark Corporation as Senior Engineer, Pulp Development in Neenah, Wisconsin. In his three years with the corporation, he was responsible for Design and Management of Pulping and Bleaching Areas for 900 T/D greenfield mill in Terrace Bay, Ontario. Seventeen years into his career, Peter moved his family to Hamilton, Ohio. It was here that he started at Staff Engineer with Champion International. He was responsible to leading development of Project Scope for greenfield mill at Quinnesec, Michigan among other projects. After 34 years of working in the Paper Industry, Peter R. Boriin retired as Director of Engineering from Champion International on April 1, 1998. Peter was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, camping, and attending sporting events, especially the Minnesota Golden Gophers. He traveled with his family and friends claiming Maui and McCarthy Beach, in Minnesota as his favorite vacation spots. He was most proud of his grandchildren, who were the light of his life and would attend all of their functions from sporting events to band concerts. Peter was very active with Professional Organizations. He was a member of the Paper Industry Management Association (PIMA) 1965 -1974. Peter also belonged to Kiwanis Club, Cloquet, Minnesota 1968 to 1974; the Toastmasters Club (President), Cloquet, Minnesota 1967 to 1974; Duluth Engineers Club (Board of Directors), Duluth, Minnesota 1960 to 1974; Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) 1975-1998; and the Construction Owners Association of the Tri-State (COATS), Cincinnati, Ohio (Board of Directors) 1990-1994. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Maude Boriin; brothers, Robert Boriin, Roy Boriin and Ralph Boriin; and his sister, Betty Aldworth. Peter is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patti (nee Demers) Boriin; son, Pete (wife, Ellen) Boriin; daughter, Patrice (husband, Jason) Pieratt, and his grandchildren, Abby Pieratt, Nick Boriin, Ben Pieratt, Charlie Roach and Meredith Roach. Visitation will be held Monday, June 2 6-8 PM at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Rd., Mason, OH 45040. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9080 Cincinnati-Dayton Rd., West Chester, OH 45069.
