Harry Earl Nelson was born on July 27, 1934 in What Cheer, Iowa to Earl and Leona Dolly Nelson. He had three sisters: Evelyn, Marlene and Darlene. Harry graduated from What Cheer High School in 1951. He attended Drake University in Des Moines before his love of music led him to join regional bands in the Midwest as a drummer. He also worked in the family clay business from the age of nine, which led him to his career as a salesman in the brick and tile business, until he retired in 1990. Harry met Jerdena Wilhite in 1951 at the What Cheer skating rink. They married in 1955 and have three children: Eric Nelson (Karla) of Ft. Myers. FL, LouAnn Thesing (Michael) of Mason, OH and Laura Brown (Steve) of Mason, OH. Harry and Jerdena have seven grandchildren: Jayson Altman of Austin, TX, John Nelson of Los Angeles, CA, Aaron Thesing of Mason, OH and Jack, Andrew, Allison and Joel Brown of Mason, OH. Harry and Jerdena lived in Fullerton CA from 1978 until 2000 when they moved to Mason, OH to be close to their daughters and grandchildren.
