Dr. Scheidler was one of the last of a lost generation of physicians who spent the last 50 years practicing great medicine . He started practice when doctors routinely went on house calls and was still making house calls when he retired this past year. He referred to himself as an old country doctor . As such, he had the privilege of treating entire generations of families (parents, children, grandchildren and, in some cases, great grandchildren) many of whom became not only valued patients, but also dear friends. He was loved, respected, and trusted by his family, patients, friends, and colleagues.

His passion for and commitment to medicine were evident in his actions. He willingly treated patients at his home after hours, at night, or whenever the need arose. There was rarely a time when someone in need was turned away and they often provided gifts of appreciation such as baskets of produce, baked goods or handmade gifts. In the early 1960s, he and several colleagues were instrumental in bringing medical care to an underserved Appalachian community in Eastern Kentucky where they started a free clinic. He also was an advocate and mentor for underprivileged boys at Boystown, a home for orphaned boys and boys in foster care, as well as an integral part of the Resident Home for the Mentally Retarded.

Dr. Scheidler also loved to teach. He spent years graciously donating his time as a Clinical Faculty Member in the education and training of medical students and residents, for which he was honored on multiple occasions as Educator of the Year through the Osteopathic Foundation.

His participation in high school and collegiate athletics led him to pursue a specialty in Sports medicine, where he donated his time as the team physician for the University of Dayton for over 30 years. He also served as the team physician for Purcell, Roger Bacon and Badin High Schools for a variety of sports.

Dr. Scheidler was an active member of the Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, lector, and on the parish council.

He received the Ohio Practioner of the Year Award for his contributions to the public health of the citizens of Ohio. He also served as Chief of Staff at Otto C. Epp Memorial Hospital (now Jewish Hospital Kenwood) as well as serving several terms on the executive board of the Ohio Osteopathic Association

Dr. Scheidler used his love of medicine for the betterment of the community and has impacted many lives. He will long be remembered for his gracious heart and zest for life. When asked how he would like to be remembered, his reply was as a great physician . Although he drove a car, you could better picture him as the gentlemen country physician in his horse and buggy.
