Opal Passalacqua

November 18, 1929 — March 4, 2013

Opal Passalacqua (nee Hoover), 83, beloved wife of the late Leonard, devoted mother of Angela (Larry) Dworkin, Patty (Ron) Hartoin and Steven (Kerine) Passalacqua, dear sister of Beulah Humphrey, loving grandmother of Maxwell and Leo Dworkin, Brian (Danielle) Hartoin, Nicole (Jake) Link, Rob Hartoin, Steven, Kristine and Patricia Passalacqua and great-grandmother of Stella Hartoin. Opal was born to James and Mamie Hoover of Irvine, Kentucky on November 18, 1929, the fifth of seven children. She passed peacefully on March 4th, 2013 surrounded by family. Her childhood was spent on her family's farm, where her constant companions were her sisters and brothers. The family moved to Norwood in her mid teens, where her older sister introduced her to Leonard, her future husband. They were married at St. Mark's in Evanston in 1951. The young couple moved to Dayton, where their two daughters, Angela and Patty, were born. They moved back to Cincinnati to be coser to family, and settled in Mason, where their third child Steve was born. They were the first wave of young GE engineer families to call Mason home, and they stayed for the next 50 years. They discovered square dancing in 1963, where Opal established friendships that lasted her lifetime. This group of lfelong friends started bowling when dancing became harder, and then graduated to monthly card parties. Opal loved to sew and made her own dance skirts, after making her children's outfits for years. She was an avid mystery reader, and shared her enthusiasm for the genre with her son and son-in-law. She started her mornings checking how her stocks had performed over a cup of cofee. She loved gardening, and one of her first acts after moving to Chesterwood was to plant some KnockOut Roses along the entryway. Family was everything to our mother; her devotion and love extended to four generations. She is survived by her sister, Beulah Humphrey, children Angela Dworkin (Larry), Patty Hartoin (Ron) and Steve Passalacqua (Kerine), grandchildren Brian Hartoin (Danielle), Nicole Link (Jake), Max Dworkin, Steven Passalacqua , Kristine Passalacqua, Rob Hartoin, Leo Dworkin, Patricia Passalacqua and greatgrandchild, Stella Hartoin. Visitation at St. Susanna Church, 616 Reading Road, Mason, OH 45040 on Thursday, March 7 from 10 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.
