Mary (Louise) Olsen Stearns of Mason, Ohio, was born January 29, 1942 and died May 26, 2011. She was the younger of two children born in DeKalb, Illinois, to the late Ida Mae (Hahn) and George Meyer Olsen. In 1960, she graduated from high school in DeKalb and joined Delta Airlines where she worked as a sales representative and public relations specialist in Chicago, Atlanta, and New York. In 1973, Mary became a sales representative in Ohio for Jantzen where she met Stanley Stearns, the love of her life. Mary and Stan were married in 1974 and settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1974, Mary joined Great American Insurance Company in Cincinnati where she worked as Corporate Assistant Vice President of Human Resources. When Stan developed cancer in 2003, Mary retired to care for him. Stan died in 2005. Mary and Stan enjoyed spending time with friends and family and vacationing at their cabin in Wisconsin. Mary was a cat lover, an avid reader, and devoted in her love and attention to her father when he lived alone for 20 years after her mother passed away. Mary was an enthusiastic traveler, and the family remembers fondly recent trips with her to Bangkok and Rome. She will be remembered most for her sense of humor, her generosity, and her classy style. Mary is survived by her brother, George Duane Olsen, his wife Deborah, her nephew Derrick and Derrick's wife Rebecca and their children James and Morgan, and her niece Sonja and Sonja's husband Dan. There will be a private internment in the Mound Rest Cemetery in Cortland in late summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's memory to the Cortland Community Library, 63 S.
