Edith C. Robinson

December 20, 1923 — March 7, 2013

Edith C. Robinson (nee Carillo), 89, beloved mother of Judy (Pete) McCreary and Steve Robinson, loving grandmother of Ryan, Alexandra, Camryn and Joshua McCreary, dear sister of Minerva Robillo and Bart Carillo. Passed away peacefully March 7, 2013. Edith Maria Carillo-Robinson was born to Bartolome and Marina Carillo in Iloilo, Philippines on December 20, 1923. She was the eldest of four children, and from the time she was young she pursued a love of learning which carried her through her entire lifetime. She attended the University of the Philippines and Central Philippine College from which she graduated in 1946. From there, she was the recipient of the Barbour Scholarship and was invited to pursue her education at the University of Michigan. She graduated with her Masters and PhD in Psychology in the early 1950's, with her specialty being child development. As she was taking post-doctoral studies in clinical psychology at Merrill-Palmer Institute in Detroit, she married John Robinson of Olivet, Michigan, on June 11, 1953. John was a doctoral student in music at the University of Michigan, and they made their home in Bloomington, Indiana to pursue further studies at Indiana University. They were both offered teaching positions at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, and Edith taught Developmental Psychology there for 35 years. Upon her retirement, she finished her thesis and earned her post-doctoral degree in Neuroscience when she was in her late 60's! She accepted the position of Professor Emeritus, and established the Edith C. Robinson Scholarship for Developmental Neuroscience, from which two Baldwin-Wallace students benefit in pursuing their academic research each year. Through Edith's drive and passion a great impact was made on the lives of those she touched. She still receives thank-you notes from students who caught her love of learning and are passing it on to others. She encouraged those around her to "have a lot of interests!" Through all her accomplishments she was a loving mother and devoted wife. She also loved flowers, cooking, sewing, and great music. She is survived by her sister Minerva, her two children Steve and Judy, and four grandchildren, Ryan, Allie, Cami, and Joshua. Her thoughtful advice, principled decisions, and warm, loving and optimistic nature are greatly missed. Memorial Gathering at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040 on Sunday, March 24 from 3 PM until Memorial Service at 4:00 PM. Memorials may be sent to the Edith C.
