WORLD WAR II US ARMY VETERAN Joseph E. Mellon, 90, husband of the late Sarah M. Mellon, devoted father of Charles 'Chuck' (Alberta) Mellon, Brett (Johna) Mellon and the late Joseph Leslie (Sharon) Mellon, dear grandfather of Mindy Beth (Mike) Baldwin and Melissa (Brad) Mellon and great-grandfather of Abby Baldwin, brother of a late brother and sister, survived by his trusted and faithful friend, his dog Cookie. Resident of Sharonville and former resident of Ashland, KY passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011. Joe was always proud of his Kentucky Wildcats. Joseph E. Mellon was a Private 1st Class in the U.S. Army from 1942 -1945. He took part in the June 6, 1944 (D-Day) invasion of German-occupied France at Omaha Beach. After D-Day, he was under the command of General George S. Patton in the U.S. Third Army. He participated in 5 major battles including the Battle of the Bulge. He received 5 bronze stars, 1 silver star and a Purple Heart. Service at the convenience of the family.
