James J. Foster

October 5, 1932 — February 7, 2014

US ARMY VETERAN KOREAN CONFLICT James J. Foster died Feb. 7, 2014 after a long illness. He was 81. Jim was a gentle, engaging man with a gift for storytelling and lifelong interest in aviation, golf, travel, music, photography and what makes people tick. He could talk to anyone about any subject. Jim was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in occupied Germany during the Korean War era, and he always placed a high value on his military service for maturing him and broadening his life. He retired as a systems analyst after 30 years with GE Aircraft Engines. He volunteered with the Hamilton County Parks for 15 years, marshaled at local PGA, LPGA and Senior Tour events for 25+ years, and was a costumed stroller for all but the last Tall Stacks festival. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Viola Foster, his siblings, Phyllis and Steven, his first wife, Evelyn "Angie" Boggs Foster, and his elder son, Michael S. Foster. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving family: wife, Mary Ellen Durkin Foster; son, James P. (Jacqueline) Foster; grandson, Lochlann J. Foster and great-grandson Trevenn Foster; stepdaughter, Kimberly J. (Javier) Lopez; granddaughter, Sophia Lopez; step grandson Devyn Tippett (Melissa Borden); and brothers, Thomas (Judy) Foster and Gregory (Sally) Foster. He will also be sadly missed by his sisters- and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Jim's family wishes to thank the entire staff at The Carlyle House for their extraordinary, loving care during the last 2 ½ months of Jim's life, and gratefully remembers our dedicated in-home caregivers, Heather, CJ, Doug and Sharon.
