Mark O. Fleming, 48, beloved husband of Lori W. (nee Lacktin), devoted father of Rachel L, Taylor R. and Reagan N. Fleming, son of Marnie and the late Clark Fleming, brother of Pastor Scott Fleming, Beth Nelson, Karol Caley and Jill Dortch, uncle of many nieces and nephews. Passed away April 11, 2008 at his home in West Chester. Mark Fleming, 48, of West Chester, Ohio, formerly of Van Wert and Convoy, Ohio passed away on Friday evening, April 11 at his residence after a brief illness. Mark was born June 9, 1959 in Van Wert, Ohio. He attended Van Wert Franklin Elementary school, then moved to Convoy, Ohio where he attended Crestview North school, graduating from Crestview High School in 1977. He was always an avid sports fan and played on the varsity teams, lettering in Baseball, Golf and Basketball during his high school years. Music was also a passion in high school. He played the trombone for the band.
Following high school, he attended Huntington University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1981. While in college, he met a girl from Canada, Lori Lacktin. That love bloomed and he and Lori were married on June 27, 1981. The two of them toured the US representing Huntington University in a singing group called New Creation.
Following college graduation, he served as a Youth Pastor in Bowling Green, Ohio at Trinity United Methodist Church. He and Lori later moved to Van Wert where he worked a Central Mutual Insurance Company for a few years.
A later move took them to the Cincinnati area, where Mark worked for insurance companies, in areas of computer programming, departmental supervision and most recently as a information tech consultant with insurance companies in Indiana, Missouri and New Jersey. Mark and Lori were actively involved with Parise and Worship teams at Living Word Fellowship, Well Spring Community and Grace Chapel. They were also instrumental in starting a new work called Well Spring.
Mark has a heart for missions here and abroad. He was actively involved hosting Athletes in Action Women during basketball season to prepare them for games in foreign countries. He went to Africa with Athletes in Action as Coach of the Women's basketball in Zimbabwe and South Africa. He also coached his daughters' basketball teams throughout their many seasons.
Mark's dreams for the future include "Six Cities Incorporated" which involves a sports complex and ministry reaching the nations.
Mark is survived by his wife, Lori and three daughters, Rachel, Taylor and Reagan, all at home in West Chester.
Also surviving are his mother, Marnie Fleming, Van Wert, Ohio; a brother, Scott (Karen) Fleming of Van Wert, Ohio; three sisters, Beth (Steve) Nelson of Findlay, Ohio; Karol (Bob) Caley of Huntington, Indiana; and Jill (John) Dortch of Oak Park, Illinois. Nieces and Nephess: Tori (Gary) Rice; Skyler, Jordan, Jaela Fleming; Drew and Hannah Nelson; Allison and Natalie Caley; Grant Dortch; Willa and Xavier Rice.
In Canada, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Rhoda Lacktin; two brothers-in-law, Larry (Sharon) Lacktin; Lionel (Sandra) Lacktin and nieces, Mindy, Sarah, Samantha and Melissa Lacktin and grand-nephew Andre Lacktin.
He was preceeded in death by his father, Clark Fleming and his father-in-law, Samuel Lacktin.
Mueller Parker Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, Ohio is in charge of funeral arrangements. Calling hours are on Tuesday, April 15 from 3:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
