He was born in Melbourne, Florida and moved to Oakwood (Dayton), Ohio at age one. He was a gifted athlete in almost every sport. Rick excelled as a baseball pitcher and was being recruited by the Cincinnati Reds until he injured his back in his senior year at Oakwood High School.
Rick attended the University of Cincinnati in the the co-op program where he was a member of the SAE fraternity. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. During college and after graduating Rick worked a total of 42 years with GE Aircraft Engines. He received three patents individually and several more as a member of a team.
Many times at GE, Rick could not discuss his work since it was classified secret. He had a high security clearance. Some things that are no longer classified included reverse engineering many parts of the Russian MIG jets and working on the Stealth Bomber. He was a technical consultant to the Israeli, Bahrain, Turkish and Greek Air Forces. Rick also investigated aircraft accidents in Israel, Hong Kong and the United States. In addition, Rick worked on the engines of the F15 and F16 fighter jets and early in his career he worked on commercial jet engines. Rick worked at GE until April of this year when his health started to decline.
Rick was the beloved husband of Mary Jane (nee Wharton), loving son of Virginia Riedmiller Beardsley and the late Carl F. Riedmiller, devoted father of Jason C. (Stephanie) and Joshua A. (Amy) Riedmiller, step-father of Laura Inglish and Robert (Lindsey) Inglish, dear brother of Sally (Jib) Greene, David and the late Michael Riedmiller, also survived by grandchildren Julia, Kate and JD. Rick was a 1963 graduate of Oakwook High School. Visitation at Mueller Parker Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason on Thursday, August 20 from 11:00 AM until time of service at 12:30 PM.
