Donald J. Michaels, Sr., 80, beloved husband of Hilda T. (nee Pohlman) for 57 years, brother-in-law of Wilma Willard, dear father of Mary Lynn Reinhart (Rick), Don Michaels, Jr. (Lisa), Jenny Morrison (Randy Caron) and Dave Michaels (Jenny), brother of the late Mary (Russ) Desserich, grandfather of Michael, Chris, Nicole, Brian, Julia, Daniel, Stephanie and Bret and great grandfather of Audrey, dear uncle of Russ (Karen) Desserich, Sandra (Bill) Westerfield, John and Chuck Willard and dear great uncle to nephews and great-great uncle to nieces and nephews. Passed away peacefully February 12, 2011 after a courageous 10 year battle with pancreatic cancer. Mr. Michaels was the first Fire Chief of Forest Park, Ohio. As a 55 year member of The Knights of Columbus, his membership spanned many Councils including; Dayton (#500), Glenmary (#5674),Richard Council (#788), St. Max Kolbe (#11355) and St. John the Evangelist (#13608). Along with many officer positions, he served as Grand Knight 5 times and was instrumental in the formation of the St. John Council. He was also an active member of the Precious Blood Assembly (#2947). He was a long time member of St. John the Evangelist Church in West Chester. Mr. Michaels worked for 26 years as Regional Service Manager for International Harvester. His joy was time spent with family, extended family and friends. His hobbies included camping, stamp and coin collecting, and riverboat gambling. He also was a Veteran of the US Navy. Funeral Mass 11:00am Wednesday, February 16 at St. John Church, 9080 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, West Chester, 45069. Visitation 5-8pm Tuesday, February 15 at MUELLER PARKER FUNERAL HOME, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040 and one hour prior to the Mass at church.
