Albert W. Zenz, age 95, of West Chester, OH passed away peacefully Monday, July 18, 2022, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband to Lois (nee Schira) Zenz for 68 happy years. Loving father to Mary Maier, James (Teri) Zenz, Susan (Joseph) Hoffman, Laura Zenz (Daren Henry), and Michael (Kelley) Zenz. Proud grandpa to Jennifer Aster, Cindi Monk, Ryan Maier, Nathan Maier, Michelle (Alex) Godofsky, Melissa Zenz (Andrew Wapiennik), Michael Zenz, Kelsey Hoffman, Angela Hoffman, Eve Henry, Faye Henry, Luke Darling, Nickolas Zenz, and Katherine Zenz; great grandpa to Quinn, Trey, Austin, David, Brendan, James, Eli, Jack, and Connor. Also survived by sister-in-law, Carolyn Schira of Defiance, OH and Fred Knoop of New Martinsville, WV. Preceded in death by: son, Thomas Zenz; son-in-law, Arthur Maier; parents, Albert and Della Zenz; and sisters, Elizabeth Iozzo, Kathleen Clendenin, Sr. Lillian Zenz, and Mary Rose Bucciarelli. Al was born Wednesday, April 13, 1927 in Shelby, Ohio where he resided until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He then relocated to Defiance, Ohio following his graduation from University of Notre Dame. Al had a 29-year career with the Boy Scouts of America, serving the Dan Beard Council and retiring in 1991 as the Scout Executive of the Illowa Council. After retirement, he completed the Aging Studies Program at the University of Iowa and enjoyed serving on the board of directors of several non-profit organizations that serve the elderly population; in 2007 The Council on Aging of Southwest Ohio presented him with the President's Award in recognition of his service. He highly valued community service, and over the years enjoyed volunteering his time to the United Way and as a PTA officer, scoutmaster, school board member, and Eucharistic minister. In that same spirit, he donated his body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine for medical education and research. Al was a devoted and loving father who kept family and faith first. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Hospice of Cincinnati and the dedicated team that provided Al with grace and love while in their care. A Memorial Mass celebrating Al's life will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
