Alberta L. Minnick (nee Schwartz), of Union, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 5, 2019 in the comfort of her home. She was born Wednesday, November 28, 1928 in Brown County, Ohio to Emmett and Gertrude (nee Leonard) Schwartz.
She happily celebrated her 91st birthday on Thanksgiving Day with all of her children and many grandchildren visiting her bedside.
Proud of taking care of her home she tended to her yard giving extra love to her rose bushes. She was always the first to have her leaves raked and lawn mowed. Family enjoyed fresh vegetables from her garden every year. Her driveway was shoveled, and there was always a path to her daily morning Enquirer!
Bertie loved to cook and hosted Thanksgiving until 82 years old. Her Christmas cookies were always counted on at the family celebration. Throughout the rest of the year, her grandkids could always count on a sweet treat from one of her always-full candy bowls.
Alberta created 50 years worth memories with family and friends camping at Dale Hollow Lake. She and Billy started in a small tent and gradually moved up to a camper. She especially loved the campfires and s'mores.
She and Billy loved playing cards, especially Pinochle, for many years with their neighbors and dear friends Fran and Leon Cook. Later she joined a ladies card group and played with them for many decades. She also discovered a love of joining her friends on cruises.
Alberta was preceded in death by: parents, Emmett and Gertrude Schwartz; husband of 53 years, Billy D. Minnick; son, Jerry Minnick; and siblings, Margaret "Maggie" (Ted) Lenning, Leonard (Dorothy) Dean, Julius (Julia) Dean, Harold (Phyllis) Dean, Earl Dean, and Ralph (Thelma) Schwartz.
Alberta is survived by: children, Kenneth (Linda) Minnick, Colleen Minnick, Rita (Bob) Hall, Monty (Doris Ann) Minnick, Dale (Sandi) Minnick; daughter-in-law, Jan Mackey; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and family members.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Susanna Church, 616 Reading Rd., Mason, OH 45040. Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 10:30 AM at St. Susanna Church.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, donations may be directed to American Cancer Society or American Lung Association.
