Barbara H. Lachance

April 15, 1929 — January 27, 2024

Barbara Helen LaChance, age 94, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2024, in Sanford, Florida. She was born on April 15, 1929, in Fall River, Massachusetts, the only child of the late Frederick A. Anderberg and Helen V. (Driscoll) Moriarty. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Emile A. LaChance, Sr.

Barbara is survived by her loving children; Robert (Judy) LaChance, Judy (Rick) Haneberg, Linda (Don) Tapke, Dan (Kim) LaChance, Joanne (Marty) McClain, Buddy (Donna) LaChance, Doug LaChance, Ellen (Rob) Wood, Fred (Roz) LaChance. Barbara was a cherished grandmother to 33 grandchildren and a beloved great-grandmother to 37 great-grandchildren.

Barbara dedicated her life to her husband and family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker. She was the woman behind the man supporting her husband in his career which entailed many relocations to new cities and finally putting down roots in Cincinnati. She always made sure her family was well taken care of in her role as a housewife and stay at home mom of nine children. She also took care of her mother who lived with the family until she passed in 1979. She had the gift of hospitality, always opening her home to guests. She had a love of singing and was a member of numerous choirs. She didn't have much time to herself raising such a large family but when time permitted, she enjoyed Saturday afternoons shopping with her mother followed by lunch at the mall, playing bridge with her husband and their friends, and volunteering at her local hospital. She enjoyed bringing the family back together on Sundays as the children grew, making it a special day for those who lived at home and for those who were now married to spend time together for lively conversation, to play games, laugh, and once again gather to share a meal.

In retirement, Barbara and her husband relocated to Fairfield Glade, TN, where they enjoyed golfing, social activities with friends, volunteering with the local GOP Club, international travel, and volunteering at their local church. When her husband became ill, they relocated back to the Cincinnati area to be close to family where she was his caregiver for 5 years, an inspiration to her family. After her husband passed away, she filled her time with volunteering at her church wherever needed, at the Aronoff Center, and at Reach Out Lakota. She continued to sing in her church choir and with The Village Voices and Circle Singers. She enjoyed playing cards with her girlfriends, going out to lunch, and attending book club with friends. She loved her family very much and looked forward to them coming to visit her and going out to eat with them. In 2022 she relocated to Sanford, FL to live with her daughter and son-in-law.  She enjoyed sunny days on the patio, reading and napping.

Barbara was a devote Catholic and her faith was the most important thing to her. She passed her love of Jesus on to her children not only in words but in deeds. She truly lived a servant's life.
