Barbara Jean Ziegler (nee Horton), born January 28, 1940 to Leoda and James Horton of Cincinnati. Barb passed with three generations of family by her side on December 28, 2023, just one month shy of her 84th birthday. Mom was an amazing woman. She was an example to everyone around her. Born into poverty, her drive and ambition to change her life was something that was not often mentioned but it was something that made her the quiet leader that she was. She was the rock and foundation of our family. She was a caretaker in an unassuming way. All of you who are family will know about her cards. She sent a card to each and every one of us for birthdays. Sometimes there was even a little cash or a gift card inside the card. She was a spreader of joy. Dad called her “sunshine” and “sweetie pie”. While dad was the outgoing storyteller, mom was the one making everything happen for every life event. She was organized, smart, kind and giving. And, she was funny! Her little quiet comments were often gut busters for her three daughters. She enjoyed life and fought to hang on until her final moments. Her body was finished but her bright spirit will continue through the lives of her daughters and grandchildren! Barb is survived by her beloved daughters Donna Ziegler, Joan (Pete) Seibenick, and Diane (Randy) Grimes. She lived for her eight beautiful grandchildren Sarah, Grace, Alex, Austin, Samantha, Connor, Rachael, and Logan. She leaves behind her sisters Ginny (Keith) George and Connie (Morris) Howard and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald Ziegler, her brothers James, Doug and Michael Horton and her parents, Leoda Horton King and James Horton. Mom loved music, holidays, birthdays, anniversaries - she just loved celebrations. She was a baker and a cook and her mission was to make sure no one went hungry. She would fill you with food and also with words of encouragement. We ask that at your next birthday, you think of her because I guarantee that she will be thinking of you!
