Bernard E. Krochmalny, known fondly as Bernie, passed away on January 14, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born on June 18, 1946, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Nicholas Michael and Cecelia Lucille (nee Wilhelm) Krochmalny.
Bernie was an alumnus of The University of Toledo, where he earned his associate's degree and became a proud member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He married Annette Sowinski, with whom he shared a life filled with love and cherished memories.
Bernie is survived by his beloved wife Annette, their children Kristin (Trip) McFadden, Jeff Krochmalny, and Mary Beth (Sean) Burns. He also leaves behind grandchildren Dani, Maureen, Peter, and Kathleen Burns, as well as his brother John (Barbara) Krochmalny, sister-in-law Bonnie Krochmalny, and nieces Amy and Sarah, and nephew Matt. In addition, he is survived by many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
He was Preceded in death by his brother Nicholas Krochmalny.
An avid golfer, Bernie cherished every opportunity to play the sport he loved, including on the University of Toledo’s golf team. He was also a passionate outdoor camper; many family vacations were spent traveling across the western United States and Canada, with Bernie, Annette, and their children exploring the great outdoors.
Bernie was a dedicated member of the Elks Club and the Knights of Columbus, where he fostered connections within his community.
A funeral mass will be held Monday, January 27 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, located at 9080 Cincinnati Dayton Road, West Chester, OH 45069, followed by a lunch in honor of Bernie's life and legacy.
Bequests may be made in Bernie’s memory to Hospice of Cincinnati or the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
