Bertie B Nichols

October 30, 1927 — June 12, 2023

Bertie B. Nichols, aged 95, of Maineville, passed away on Monday, June 12th, 2023.  One of six children, she was born on October 30th, 1927 to the late Simon Caudill and Hester (nee Cornett) Caudill Burns in Lee County, Kentucky.

Bertie was a force to be reckoned with: she was stong-willed and determined, and never gave up.  She could be a "mama bear" who stood up for her daughter and others that she loved, but she was also incredibly sweet.  Bertie is remembered for her loving, wonderful heart as well as her strength and tenacity.  She was ceaselessly generous, being known to feed her neighbors and provide clothing for those who didn't have what they needed.  She was devoted and gentle, and was a loving and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.  Her grandkids and great-grandkids were everything to her!

As well as sharing her love and generosity with others, Bertie was an avid quilter and seamstress, and an amazing cook.  She especially put her talents to work with baking: her pies were much sought after at the church bake sales, sometimes being auctioned off at $50 to $60 dollars a pie!

Preceding Bertie in death were her parents, Simon and Hester; her husband Julian, who passed away in 2005; her siblings, B.F. Moore, Tommy Moore, Sherman Caudill, Ulysses "Duke" Caudill, and Nannie Caudill; and her nephew, Ronnie Moore.

Bertie is survived by her daughter, Irene (nee Edwards) Bond and her husband David A. Mehaffie; her grandchildren James Keith Bond and Jonathan Edward Bond (wife Misty); her great-grandchildren Sophia Bond and Andrew Bond, and step-great-grandchildren Lilly Teets and Claire Teets; and many friends and beloved caregivers.
