Carl H. Ferrell

May 17, 1924 — April 29, 2021

WORLD WAR II VETERAN
UNITED STATES NAVY

Carl H. Ferrell, 96, of Maineville, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021. Carl was born in Majestic, Kentucky to Frank and Ida Ferrell.

Carl's love was his family. He was a wonderful husband to Lillian for over 72 years. He was a great dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. Carl was a custom cabinet maker by trade and loved to create beautiful woodworking heirlooms.

Carl was the beloved husband of Lillian (nee Blankenship), devoted father of Rev. J. Glenn (Susan) Ferrell, Linda Ferrell, Carol (Kenneth) Dick and Janet (David) Nelson, loving grandpa of Blake, Micah, Hannah, Noah, Angelia, Travis, Aaron and Trevor, Kelsey and Alexis, dear brother of Christine Dunfee, Fern King and the late Frank (Junior), Eugene, Alfred and Josephine. He was blessed with 17 great grandchildren and one on the way.

Carl was a WWII Navy Veteran from 1943-1946 where he was a Seaman 1st Class, stationed in the Philippines. Shortly after being discharged, he met his wife, and they were married and started a family. They lived in Majestic, Kentucky and then later moved to Stopover, Kentucky. In 1969 they moved to Mason, Oho and later resided in Maineville, Ohio until his death.

Carl lived a simple life working in the coalmines in Kentucky, steel mills in Chicago, and then later becoming a cabinet maker in Ohio. His passions were his family, reading, fishing, listening to blue grass music, playing his banjo & guitar, hobby work in his woodshop, making furniture, thinking of things to invent, writing poems and stories, , and cutting down trees. He was the type of man that would have given you the shirt off his back or helped you in any way he could. He lived an unselfish life, making sure everyone around him had what they needed and wanted. He was very proud of all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved them unconditionally. He enjoyed telling stories and jokes and talking about his memories over his lifetime to anyone that would listen. He loved his dog Bear and trained him to do many tricks and was very proud to show these off to anyone who visited. He loved shopping at garage sales and thrift stores to see what treasures he might find. He was always thinking, and his mind never stopped working until the day he died.

Later in life he had trouble seeing, but this did not stop him from doing the things he loved. He enjoyed a shot of good whiskey or brandy each day and said this helped him live to the ripe old age of 96. We always thought he would live to be 100, but he had grown tired, and it was time for him to go. We will miss him more than anyone can imagine, but his smile and those precious memories will live with all of us forever. At the hospital he said that he needed to get home, he had lots of things to do; now we know he meant his heavenly heaven home and we are sure he is now working hard inside those pearly gates.
