Carol Elaine Baker DeForest
Our wonderful wife and mother Carol Elaine Baker DeForest passed away peacefully, September 11th, after a brave and dignified journey with Alzheimer's disease. Mom met our dad David DeForest when they were students at Miami University. She graduated with a nursing degree from Miami Valley School of Nursing in 1950, and a Bachelor of Science from Miami in 1954. That same year, they were married in Oxford, Ohio; and for the next 65 years, Mom and Dad were each other's best friend and partners in life.
Mom was a strong and loving pillar of our family. Along with our dad, she raised my brother and me to be ready for the world, and we have benefitted from her influence throughout our lives. The habits of punctuality, preparedness and firm handshakes that she instilled in us have served us well, but she was also kind and nurturing when you really needed it. This compassion also extended to her work as a Registered Nurse. Over a career that spanned more than 40 years, she worked in various nursing specialties; but she shined in the areas of geriatrics and home health care, where she was known to have a warm rapport with her patients.
In retirement, she dabbled in creative writing and continued to devote her time to her family. She was greatly loved, and will be missed by her husband David, daughter Letitia ("Tish"), son Christian, son-in-law Michael Neary, daughter-in-law Andrea, granddaughters Claire and Heather, nephew and niece Michael and Melanie Bruno, and their families.
Upon her passing to the next realm, she was certainly greeted with open arms by her sister Ruth, parents Raymond and Elma, and niece Michelle, who departed before her. Carol was 89.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor to the Alzheimer's Association would be greatly appreciated.
