Carolyn J. Durst

August 4, 1946 — December 14, 2021

Carolyn J. Durst was born into this world August 4, 1946 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late John and June Mullins. She was known as a wife, a mother, a mamaw, a sister, an aunt, a caretaker for children, and to many…a caring, genuine friend.  She made her transition into God’s arms on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at the age of 75 after an extended illness.

Carolyn graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1964 and married her sweetheart, William J. Durst Sr. a few short weeks later. The couple then moved to Cleveland, Ohio where she worked briefly at General Electric until they started a family. With the birth of their children, she worked diligently to nurture a loving nest for her children to grow up within. This began her greatest work, caring for her children and husband. The family moved to Mason, Ohio in 1980 where they have resided since.

Carol enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family.  She much preferred a night in over a night out, simply gathered around with her kids and their kids. For many years she provided in-home childcare for families from her church, the community, and for many teachers in the Mason City School District. Carolyn had a fond passion for playing word games, reading scripture, and collecting quotes and special sayings. These would often find their way onto her refrigerator, slipped in the hand of a friend who needed an encouraging word, or whispered in a quiet moment of conversation with a friend. She enjoyed walking at the park with her husband and watching and feeding the birds. She faithfully served with meekness and humility for decades as a volunteer who cleaned her church, kept attendance records, and greeted guests.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, John and June Mullins and her siblings, Jerry (Nancy) Mullins and Barbara Mullins.

Carolyn is survived by her husband; William J. Durst, Sr., children, William (Myrica) Durst, Jr., Mark (Elizebeth) Durst, Lori (Mike) Fehlberg, and Rebecca (Andrew) Gallimore, grandchildren, Michaela Durst, Cameron Durst, Carter Durst, and Mason Gallimore and brother; Jim (Trena) Mullins and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040 on Friday, December 17, 2021 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at 11:30 AM.
