Charles Edmond “Chuck” Decker, 80 of West Chester, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2022. He was born to Nicholas and Catherine (nee Hogan) Decker on March 24, 1942, in Springfield, Ohio.
Chuck was an educator and coach for more than 40 years. He had a passion for teaching young minds and improving their school experience. Chuck started his teaching career with Moeller High School from 1966-68, Springfield Catholic 1968-70, J. Bryan Middle School 1970-71, St. Bernard-Elmwood Place 1972-1998 and retired from McNicholas High School, where he taught from 1998-2008. For his many successes in the classroom and on the field, "Coach D" was elected to both the Education and Athletic Halls of Fame at St. Bernard-Elmwood Place.
At home, Chuck found peace in tending to his garden, mowing the lawn, and washing the cars. He loved to take breaks for ice cream and always had "punny" jokes for his grandkids. Usually, the Reds or Bengals would be playing in the background if the game wasn't too aggravating. He followed Vicki from Hawaii to Hungary on many adventures; anywhere he could play in the surf was his top destination.
Preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Catherine Decker, two siblings, Sue (Al) Langen and Tom (Sharon) Decker, and friends Ed (Cheryl) Theiss and Bob (Carol) Cast.
Survived by his loving wife and best friend, Vicki (nee Bollmer) Decker, two children, Joe (Kristi) Decker and Julie (Joe) Juenger, four grandchildren, Josie and Sophie Decker and Maura and Joe Juenger, three siblings, Kathy (Norm) Hensel, Mary (Don) Schraffenberger and Frank (Jackie) Decker, brother-in-law, G. Richard “Buzz” Bollmer and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 22nd from 10:00-11:00am with a memorial mass at 11:00am, both at St. Susanna Catholic Church, 616 Reading Road, Mason, OH 45040.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Student Aid Fund or St. Joseph's Indian School, Chamberlain, South Dakota .
