Christine Phelan

Christine J. Phelan (nee Jacob) 78 of Mason, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024. Born to Herbert and Theresa (nee Art) Jacob on August 14, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Christine attended St John Vianney Parish Cure of Ars School, St Mary High School and later the University of Cincinnati.

She went on to live in Wisconsin for a couple years before moving to California where she laid her roots down from 1972-2010.

She worked 5 years at the University of Cincinnati while she was going to school there. Then 13 years as a administrative assistant for an architectural firm in Los Angeles 21 years as a legal secretary in Glendora. Then she moved home to Cincinnati, Mason to be exact, in 2010 to retire.

Christine was a faithful woman, an avid reader and loved animals like humans. She had a fond attraction to cats especially.

She enjoyed nature, hiking, skiing, and boating in the summer all over California with her daughter, Angela.  Traveling was important to her and if money allowed, she would travel anywhere she could. Christine had visited 26 states and 9 countries.

She was a member of the League of Women Voters, Girl Scout Leader, Junior Women’s Club, Friends of the Library and Cincinnati Circle Singers.

Christine was very active at St Susanna Catholic Church in the choir, the Women’s Association where she was the president for 2 years and chairman of the annual Garage Sale for 8 years, a member of the funeral reception committee; volunteer for the church festival and lots of other church projects. Faith and community meant the world to her.

Preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Theresa Jacob, ex-partner, Rainer Melcshau and nephew Benjamin Wilson.

Survived by her daughter, Angela Phelan, siblings, Carolyn Wetterich, Terry Wilson and Sue Jacob, her ex-husband, Nelson Phelan, great friends, Don Henry, Patti Amesbury, Janet and Pat Kennedy, Regina and Rob Foster; cousin Debbi McSpadden Carper and too many friends and other family members to list.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, August 30th at 11:00am (please arrive at 10:30AM) at St Susanna Catholic Church, 616 Reading Road, Mason, OH 45040. Inurnment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery to follow. Reception at St Susanna following the committal.
