Maineville

Daniel D. Sheedy, born on March 13, 1942, in Niagara Falls, New York, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home in Maineville on February 16, 2025. He departed this life while rejoicing with the angelic choir, leaving behind a legacy as a dedicated educator, coach, salesman and devoted family man.

Daniel had a distinguished career as an educator, teaching at numerous high schools, including Wilson High School, St. Mary's, and Odessa Montour High School in New York. His teaching journey continued when he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he retired from Purcell High School. Daniel's commitment to his students extended beyond the classroom; he also served his community as the head football coach, inspiring countless young athletes including his children. His passion for education and coaching left a lasting impact on many lives. After his retirement from teaching, Daniel continued his professional journey until retiring from Queen City Polymers in 2012 at the age of 70.

Daniel earned a full scholarship for football to the University of Iowa where he played for two years, he then continued to play football at William Penn University and received his bachelor's degree. While teaching full-time, he furthered his education and earned a master's degree from Buffalo State, showcasing his dedication to lifelong learning. Known for his hard work and dedication, Daniel embodied the values of pride in his country and respect for those who have served. He held the utmost respect for the United States Armed Forces, embracing his role as an American patriot.

Daniel’s warmth radiated through his love for family and his passion for creating cherished memories. He owned a house at Lake Lorelei, affectionately named the Sheedy Shack, which served as the heart of family gatherings and lifelong memories. His hobbies included fishing with the grandkids, spending time at the lake, and being surrounded by his family and friends which brought him immense joy. He never knew a stranger; he was always there with a lending hand to anyone in need. He could light up a room with his smile, a sparkle in his eye and always the last one on the dance floor.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie Jo (nee Burbee), Sheedy, and children Laura (Jon) Harris, Kathleen (Jeff) Kirkhoff, and Daniel (Julie Nurre) Sheedy. His legacy continues through his six cherished grandchildren: Samantha (fiancé Jake Farwick) Harris, Jack Harris, Benjamin Harris, Joseph Sheedy, Lauren Sheedy, and Thomas Sheedy. Daniel is also survived by his sister, Eirin (John) Connelly; brothers-in-law Ray (Patricia) Burbee, Thomas P. Sweeney, and David Warren; and sister-in-law Cynthia Wickert. He shared a special bond with the Neville Family, who were like siblings to him, and honored the matriarch of the family, Beryl Powers. Additionally, he leaves behind many loving family members who he cherished dearly.

Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Michael Sheedy; mother, Mary (nee Neville) Sheedy; sisters-in-law Mary Susan Warren, Paulette Powers, and Katherine Powers; and brothers-in-law Ron Wickert and Jim Powers.

Among his proudest accomplishments was his role as a founding member of Saint Margaret of York Church, where he worked diligently with others to secure a space for services at Kings High School until the Church was built. In addition, he volunteered on committees at Lake Lorelei to restore and improve the iconic historical surroundings.
