Darlene Oliver

Darlene Oliver passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, with her loving family by her side. Darlene was born in Manchester, Kentucky, the fourth of seven children to parents Mayme and Walton Hooker.

As a child, Darlene attended Paces Creek elementary school. From there, she attended and graduated from Clay County High School in Manchester Kentucky, at the top of her class. Darlene went on to attend Eastern Kentucky State College in Richmond Kentucky (known now as EKU). There she earned a Bachelors in secondary education, with a major in math, graduating with honors. After graduation, Darlene accepted a teaching position at CCHS, her Alma- mater.

It was during her firsts years teaching that a friend introduced her to her future husband, Jean B. Oliver. They were married three years later and became parents to Jason and Candace.

In the late seventies, the family would relocate to Potomac, Maryland for work. There the family joined the Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church. Darlene would take a teaching position at Bethesda- Chey Chase High School, teaching honors math in the Baccalaureate system, teaching for 20 years. After retiring, she and Jean moved to West Chester, Ohio in order to be closer to family.

Darlene is survived by her children Jason (Raienne) Oliver, daughter Candace (Matthew) Powell, Grandchildren Kylee Oliver, Colton Oliver, Carson Oliver, Logan Powell and Hannah Powell, siblings Betty Sue Root, Charlotte Smith, Jon (Nee Hooker) Wallace, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Inurnment in the mausoleum will take place at the Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church, located in Bethesda, Maryland.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
